A Continuous Problem of our World

Our world continues to rise in different aspects. With regards to our fast-phased changing world, different problems are also rising from everywhere, and one of which is the rise of climate change and global warming.

During the recently concluded semester, we tackled in our class Planetary Networks, which discuss certain issues that is affecting our world. The topic also focuses on global warming and climate change and how it affects the whole world. Under climate change, the issue regarding El Niño and La Niña is also discussed. Different impacts of climate change are also discussed during this topic, and one of the threatening impacts climate change can give to our world is that it can create health dangers. Dangers like La Niña creates rising on sea levels which submerge the low level places in different parts of the worlds.  Here in our country, there are places like Malabon and Novaliches which are easily affected by water whenever there are high tides. This causes health risks like leptospirosis and dengue since the government does not take immediate actions to provide a better shelter and better ways in preventing the water from coming into low places. Meanwhile, El Niño imposes a threat also in people’s health since it creates food shortage and could possibly cause heat strokes not only in people, but also in the animals. There are provinces here in our country that is in great danger when El Niño strikes, Central Luzon to be exact. During drought, crops are highly damage and become dry since there are lack of water from the beneath the land where these crops are planted. El Niño could also possibly start forest fires due to intense heat.

Due to these rising issues, Planetary Network also discusses the actions taken by the government and different agencies to resolve this problems. Our country itself already had an action how we can create a better world. During 2009, our government passed the Republic Act of 9729 or the Climate Change Act which aims to lessen the use of carbon footprint through using alternative energies. International agencies also created actions like the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Berlin Protocol, Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement which unites different countries in helping the world to heal from these problems.

These problems happened because of us. These topics help us to fully understand how to resolve the problems our world is currently facing. We need to make and action, and change must come from within each one of us. This is a big help in motivating people at a young age to further understand what our world needs for us to survive and create a better world to live for the next generation.
